Ci is excited to be a part of the recent plans to develop a state-of-the-art Crime Laboratory in Marlborough, Massachusetts. In recognition of Forensic Science Week, the Healey-Driscoll Administration, through the Massachusetts State Police and the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM), has announced the new facility developed by Greatland Realty Partners.
Our award-winning architecture firm is working with Greatland to provide architecture, planning and lab planning services for the approximately 200,000-square-foot, four-story ground-up facility at 100 Martinangelo Drive in Marlborough. The project will consolidate the current crime labs in Maynard and Sudbury into a single location, accommodating more than 250 employees and providing room for future growth.

Construction is scheduled to begin early 2026, with the opening planned for the first quarter of 2028.
“This facility represents the future of forensic science for the State Police and DCAMM,” said Christopher M. Ladd, Vice President and COO of Ci. “Our design combines technologically advanced laboratories, efficient support spaces, and sustainable building systems and infrastructure, such as photovoltaic canopies and electric vehicle chargers, for a truly state-of-the-art solution.”
The highly trained scientists at the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory respond to crime scenes, perform laboratory testing, and provide expert testimony.
The Lab’s scientists conduct forensic analysis in various disciplines, including criminalistics, DNA, trace/arson and explosives, drug chemistry, ante and post-mortem toxicology, latent print and impression evidence, and firearms, according to the press release. The Lab also performs breath alcohol instrument calibration certifications and collects and processes DNA samples to submit to the national DNA database.
The facility is activating a vacant site and targeting a minimum LEED Silver Certified Standard, ensuring a high-performance environment for cutting-edge crime analysis.
“The new crime lab will support the Massachusetts State Police’s investigative capabilities, providing a new facility for forensic innovation,” said Ci Principal and Director of Life Sciences Brian DiLuiso. “This vital public safety facility is not only a significant addition to our Science & Technology portfolio, but an example of an innovative public-private partnership between the Commonwealth and our client Greatland Realty Partners, who will develop and manage the new facility.”
