GET TO KNOW OUR SUMMER 2023 INTERNS

Every summer, Ci Design welcomes a wide range of talented and motivated interns to assist various teams and projects. This year’s interns specialize in Architecture, Marketing, and Design across all three practice groups, Commercial, Science & Technology, and Industrial.

Will Jackson, Architecture Intern - Raleigh, NC

School/Major: Auburn University/Architecture

What drew you to an internship with Ci Design? My girlfriend worked for Brassfield and Gorrie as a member of the North Hills Expansion team, in Raleigh, last fall as a part of her Co-op/Internship. Her role as an interning project manager got her the opportunity to network with a few members of Ci and she got me an interview with the Raleigh team. After looking at the work that Ci has done, I knew I could learn from the people here.

What is an accomplishment you are most proud of? As a senior in high school, I won the Student of the Year award for my drafting class. This award is given every year to one senior in the county between four schools. The course was offered to 10th through 12th graders, I was one of few who had been in the program for all 3 years it was available, and I was the first to pass the Autodesk Revit certification exam in the course. In my second year of this course, I also passed the AutoCAD certification exam.

What’s one thing you hope to take away from this internship? Joe Buglino has taught me how to draw the perfect trusses in a section view. Coming into this internship, it had been about 4 years since I had used Revit but this team here in Raleigh has been super helpful at teaching me the ins and outs of Revit.

What’s one fun fact you want people to know about you? I love being outdoors in nature and being active, but I also love staying indoors watching movies and TV or playing video games with friends.

Heeba Shaikh, Marketing Intern - Raleigh, NC

School/Major: UNC Chapel Hill/Business Administration-Marketing

What drew you to an internship with Ci Design? The people! Since the day I was interviewed, I felt that the people at Ci truly embodied the "work hard, play hard" spirit. A positive work environment that sees me as more than just an employee is really important to me, and Ci has definitely met my expectations.

What is an accomplishment you are most proud of? Super proud of getting direct admission into Kenan Flagler Business School. It has opened many doors for me as a first-generation college student and I'm excited to continue my journey at Carolina.

What’s one thing you hope to take away from this internship? I want to truly absorb all the soft skills I've learned here. How to hold a conversation, send an email to a superior, set boundaries and manage deadlines. These skills, more than anything else, can make a difference on whether you have a good or bad day at work.

What’s one fun fact you want people to know about you? I have two parakeets as pets and they're awesome!

Rachel Guo, Design Intern - Baltimore, MD

School/Major: Pratt Institute/Master of Architecture

What drew you to an internship with Ci Design? I was a full time Designer at Ci a year ago and decided to return to school to pursue my master’s degree. I enjoyed my time here with the design team collaboration and the interesting projects. I appreciate Ci’s focus on the design process and the attention to detail that is applied during this process.

What is an accomplishment you are most proud of? I am most proud of my two IDA awards for my undergraduate thesis project.

What’s one thing you hope to take away from this internship? I hope to further develop my design sensibilities that may be advantageous for my studies and career. I also hope to further develop my working relationship with the firm and design team.

What’s one fun fact you want people to know about you? I played basketball for 10 years and am an avid watcher of the WNBA.

Joseph Sosa, Design Intern - Baltimore, MD

School/Major: Catholic University of America/Architecture

What drew you to an internship with Ci Design? The search for new experience and the variety of projects that will help me grow in my future career as an Architect.

What is an accomplishment you are most proud of? That I've learned how to do better designs when it comes to multifamily projects.

What’s one thing you hope to take away from this internship? I was able to put into practice everything I learned inside the classroom during college and at the same time continue to expand my knowledge regarding the architecture field. This experience has also developed my leadership skills. Additionally, I met plenty of new people who have provided me with valuable insight on how to succeed as an architect.

What’s one fun fact you want people to know about you? A fun fact about me is that I'm a very competitive person in everything relating to sports and board games.

Jake Dupuis, Design Intern - Boston, MA

School/Major: Roger Williams University/Architecture

What drew you to an internship with Ci Design? I was looking for an architecture summer internship last second and my Dad reached out to Ben Anderson.

What is an accomplishment you are most proud of? Getting internships early on in my career that are going to help me to have an easier time in school by earning credits and getting experience as well as getting time towards things like NCARB.

What’s one thing you hope to take away from this internship? Experience with online programs I hadn't used before such as Revit and more experience with what I had already had practice with like Sketchup, excel, photoshop, and illustrator.

What’s one fun fact you want people to know about you? I am trying to travel to all of the national parks and I started this year with Acadia.

Lauren Lapomardo, Marketing Intern - Boston, MA

School/Major: Penn State/Architecture

What drew you to an internship with Ci Design? I wanted to be part of a firm that focuses on design and takes pride in their work. During my time here, I am thrilled to be learning about the big picture and entire design process as a whole to ultimately improve my design abilities.

What is an accomplishment you are most proud of? I won the first IHSA competition (horseback riding competition) that I entered.

What is the next destination on your bucket list? nywhere I can relax on the beach. I’ve always wanted to go to Boar Boar because it is said to have the best beaches in the world.

What do you like to do outside of the office? NETFLIX!
