Ci CELEBRATES RIVERBIRCH SHOPPING CENTER GROUNDBREAKING IN SANFORD, NORTH CAROLINA

Ci Design, Inc. is proud to announce the groundbreaking of Riverbirch, a 40-acre retail redevelopment in Sanford. Serving as the master planner and architect, Ci is working with CASTO and the City of Sanford to shape the vision of this public-private partnership that will revitalize a shuttered retail property into a community destination for Lee County residents and visitors.

Ci and CASTO developed several potential site configurations and designs to create this transformative project. The project team will demolish and replace most of the shopping center’s current buildings and other infrastructure to add modern amenities and create a premium retail experience.

“Our approach to Riverbirch is rooted in creating a cohesive, people-first environment that reflects the character of Sanford while supporting its future growth,” said Chris Bauer, Ci Principal and Mixed-Use & Residential Practice Leader. “From early master planning through architectural design, our goal has been to balance density, walkability, and open space to deliver lasting value and reinstate Riverbirch as an economic driver for the community.”

The groundbreaking ceremony represents a significant milestone for Sanford. Those in attendance, including City of Sanford Mayor Rebecca Salmon, the Sanford Area Growth Alliance and City Council members, are excited to welcome much-needed retail opportunities and public gathering spaces to the area.

Ci is leveraging its expertise in mixed-use and retail environments to guide the project from concept through implementation—ensuring a cohesive vision across all phases of development.

Construction is now underway, with additional details on project phases and tenants to be announced as the development progresses.
