A City For The Future by ci design

Gracing the cover of this month's issue of Shopping Center Business magazine is Metropica, a new mixed-use development in South Florida that is "changing the retail environment."

In the article, Metropica: A City For the Future, ci design Principal Chris Bauer discusses how Metropica will create a "dense, sustainable urban community" while complementing, embracing and connecting its suburban neighbors. ci design is serving as master planner of the project, and as architect for the retail, entertainment and mixed-use district.

"[Metropica] will be an environmentally sensitive, pedestrian-oriented core that will utilize public transit to become a larger community with such suburban elements as the Sawgrass Mills mall, BB&T Center and upcoming American Express corporate campus. In this respect, Metropica is at the forefront of a national – and global trend – of urbanization," writes Mr. Bauer.

In November, Metropica officially broke ground and expects to begin construction on the first residential tower in 2015. Expected completion is 2017.

Ellsworth Place: "Renewing an Industry Pioneer" by ci design

Ellsworth Place

This month, our work on the redevelopment and rebranding of Ellsworth Place in Silver Spring, Maryland can be found in the Shopping Center Business magazine.

"From urban retail pioneer to after-thought and back again to vibrant community cornerstone: Such will be the story of  Ellsworth Place, the reconception of City Place Mall in Downtown Silver Spring, Maryland, when it celebrates a grand reopening this fall," writes ci design President John H. Larsen.

ci design is currently leading the renovation and design of the 350,000 s/f shopping mall, owned by a joint venture of Petrie Richardson Ventures and RockWood Capital.

"[Our] role was to reconfigure the center to draw shoppers to anchors on multiple levels, renovate a well-kept but dated interior, and create more activity on the street-level exterior," explains Larsen.
